The exhibition “Moroni (1521-1580). I definitely didn’t want to miss A Portrait of His Time” (December 6, 2023 – April 1, 2024) in the Galleria d’Italia, Milan.
°
Since 2019 I have been working intensively with Giovanni Battista Moroni (* between 1521 and 1524 in Albino near Bergamo; † around 1580) and have been enthusiastic about his works ever since.
°
Of course, what impressed me most was the mysterious painting “The Tailor”. It is now in the National Gallery in London.
This very famous painting can also be seen in Milan.
°
This photo shows another very famous, fascinating painting by Moroni: The “Knight in Pink” from 1560. It shows the nobleman Gian Gerolamo Grumelli.
This very famous painting is on loan from the Palazzo Moroni in Bergamo,
I will definitely plan a visit to Bergamo again on one of my next stays in Italy.
°
In Moroni’s paintings, the motifs often seem very lively, close to life. and seem to reflect snapshots.
°
The current exhibition, which unfortunately is coming to an end soon, is wonderfully put together and presented.
Maybe my little series has made some of you aware of Moroni.
