The Gift. Munich, September 2024

The gift. Munich, September 2024

The castle with the garden was originally a gift to the young mother, Electress Henriette Adelaide of Savoy, on the occasion of the birth of Crown Prince Max Emanuel of Bavaria from the noble Wittelsbach family in 1662.
°
The pleasure palace later became a baroque palace complex modeled on Italian country villas, which served as a summer residence and an alternative seat of government to the residence in downtown Munich.
°
The model for the building was the Piedmontese hunting lodge La Venaria, whose architect Amedeo Castellamonte (1613–1683) provided the first designs for Nymphenburg.
°
My walk through the park takes me through wooded sections that repeatedly open into clearings with meadows and beautiful views.
°
On the way I can hear the sound of the big waterfall from far away and can hardly wait for the forest to open up and see the big cascade and the canal.
To my right I look at the large cascade and to my left the line of sight opens up to the water, which leads to the view of the garden side of the castle.
This is the look we see in this photo.
°
Today is a windless summer day and the castle is reflected in the calm water.
I look left and right every time I walk or jog by here. Always a completely new impression – depending on the light, time of day and season.
