The rubber tree, June, 2024

I saw a rubber tree for the first time as a child. My uncle had brought it as a present for my parents from the greenhause at the boarding school he was attending at the time.

Much later I saw stately rubber trees in Asia and was very impressed and fascinated by their size.

Indoor plants are also subject to certain fashions. The rubber tree reminds me of the so-called economic boom years in the 60s, when it was a popular and “chic” exotic decoration for the living room.

I met this magnificent specimen in Nice. Beautiful, gorgeous, healthy and impressive.
